Third-party ad

A third-party ad is advertising loaded from an ad network's servers rather than from the platform you are on, which means an advertiser - not the site - decides what appears in the slot and where the click leads. Most free adult sites are funded this way, so the operator does not review each ad individually.

Where you see it

In banners, overlays on video players, sponsored tiles laid out to look like real rooms, and pop-unders. Also in the opposite direction, as the message some sites show asking you to switch off an ad blocker before they will load.

Why it matters

These slots are where clone sites, fake downloads and imitation checkouts reach people, and they set cookies from domains unrelated to the site you chose. Nothing an advert offers has to be taken up on the spot: if it names a platform you want, open that platform by typing its address. And a site that refuses to work until you disable your ad blocker is proposing a trade you can turn down.
