Account recovery
Account recovery is the set of routes a platform gives you to get back in when the password stops working: a reset link sent to the registered email address, a code to a linked phone number, or a manual check handled by support. Which of those exist is decided by the platform, not by you, and some sites offer only the first.

Where you see it
The visible half is the "forgot password" link on the login screen. The half that decides whether it works is in account settings, where the recovery email and phone number are set long before you ever need them.
Why it matters
Recovery only reaches contact details you can still open, so an abandoned email alias or a phone number you have since changed locks you out for good - and an account holding a token balance or an active subscription is worth more than the login itself. Before you put money behind an account, check that the recovery address is one you still read, and that support can actually restore access rather than only reset a password.
