Free chat
Free chat is the open public room on a cam site: the stream anyone can watch without paying, with a shared chat feed running alongside it. The thumbnail preview on the site grid is a short sample of that same room.

Where you see it
It is the default view behind almost every thumbnail on a cam site home page, and it is what you land in before any payment screen appears. Some sites let you watch as a guest and only prompt for an account when you try to chat.
Why it matters
Free applies to watching, not to taking part - typing in the chat usually needs an account, and the room itself is where tip goals, request menus and private-show offers are worked. Anything you type there is visible to everyone watching, under whatever screen name you registered, so free chat is public in a way a private session is not.
